Watch playful Black Howler Monkeys at the Community Baboon Sanctuary then go on a rousing Jeep ride through the Belizean countryside.

Baboon Sanctuary and Jeep Adventure

Your Belize excursion begins at the Community Baboon Sanctuary nestled in the Belizean rainforest.

This grassroots animal sanctuary contains more than 2,000 Black Howler Monkeys who are lovingly referred to as Baboons by the locals, given their immense size. These monkeys typically live in groups of 7 to 9 members and their loud howls can be heard up to 5km away.

Walk along the sanctuary trails and watch the monkeys in their natural habitat as your guide shares interesting facts about these magnificent animals. While here you will also learn about the various plants and how they were used medicinally by the Mayans as well as by modern day residents.

Your Belize tour continues to Hattieville, a community born of displaced families following the aftermath of Hurricane Hattie in 1961. After a brief safety meeting and overview of road rules you will board a Jeep for an exciting ride through the country!

Take the wheel and blaze through the pine savannah and lush forest as you head to the foothills of the Maya Mountains. Thanks to the merging of these distinct ecosystems you can see a variety of plants and wildlife including more than 500 species of birds. Keep your eyes peeled for the Jabiru Stork, yellow headed Parrots and the Keel-billed Toucan, the national bird of Belize. You might also get to see bats, jaguars, ocelots and pumas. Check the trees for orchid sightings including the famed Black Orchid.

Midway through your adventure you will stop to see a cave system where you will discover how they were formed and used by various cultures including the Mayans. Exit the forest trail near the Sibun River then drive back to headquarters to enjoy a delicious, traditional Belizean lunch.

After your meal you can relax in a hammock or enjoy a swim in the river before your return back to port.

This popular tour sells out fast! Reserve your spot now to see the famed Black Howler Monkeys in person.
